It’s time to get your bikes ready, find your bug spray and air out your sleeping bag!
I’ve extended online registration for a couple of extra days. The weather is calling for sunshine and sunshine for the weekend so don’t hesitate to claim your schwag bag by registering online.
Day of registration is as follows:
Saturday: 6:00pm – 7:00pm (all categories)
Sunday: 8:00am – 9:30am (all categories)
10:30 – 11:30am (4 hour event)
8 hour race start time: 10:00am
4 hour race start time: 12:00 pm
Not just a Race, but a Festival!
There is plenty more to Gorefest besides an endurance race. Yes, we have a 4 hour and 8 hour Endurance event this year but there is so much more available!
Youth Race:
Saturday will start with Youth Races for those under 15 years of age. There will be two short races that will be spectator friendly and loads of fun for the kids.
Registration will begin at 10:00am and the race will begin at 10:30am.
Trail Building Clinic:
We will have a Trail Building Clinic starting at 11:00 am courtesy of Nova Scotia Mountain Bike Trail Association. These are some of the folks we can thank for keeping our trails open in Nova Scotia. Learn tips and techniques on trail building by the seasoned veterans.
Swap Meet:
We will be having a Swap Meet so bring your old, used, no longer needed bike related stuff to sell/trade/or give away! This will happen Saturday afternoon.
Vendor Area:
There will be select vendors showing their wares for you to see. This will run throughout the day Saturday.
Oakley Gore At Night:
Oakley once again, steps it up and hosts the (in)famous night events. We will have wheelie contests, bike toss competition and the ever popular Night Crits. Set up your tent and stay the night. It’s so worth it!
Saturday Evening Registration:
We will also have registration Saturday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 for those camping overnight. This will shorten the lines on Sunday morning and allow you to catch a couple more ZZZZZsss.
Things to Remember for First Timers
Every year I like to remind all riders beforehand to bring a few things just in case.
Remember:
Bug dope – them Gore flies are BIG!
Water, water and water – I will have some water on hand from Sobeys however, bring lots.
Toilet paper – Yes, toilet paper. I will have some extra but just in case, bring some of your own.
Food – Old Port Pub will be onsite but if you require additional food, the pickings are scarce.
Garbage Bags – To pick up your trash. There will be recepticles for your trash so please use them.
Your bike and your willingness to have a great time!
Countdown is on!
With just under one week to go everything seems to be falling in place quite nicely.
Our sponsors have delivered a plethora of great prizes. Norco, Devinci, Fox, Oakley, CyclesLambert, Louis Garneau, Propeller Breweries, Spartan Fitness, and Sportwheels have donated prizes to this years event.
There are still a few schwag bags to claim for registering online. The bags will include many items including stickers, Norco item, Ticket for a meal from Old Port Pub onsite, and a $10.00 gift card from Sportwheels. Only a few left, and only available if you preregister!
We will have Tee shirts and Stickers available for sale onsite as well. The Tees have the newly designed 2011 logo on the front and our stickers proudly proclaim you’ve survived Gorefest 2011. The cost for the Tee will be $10.00 and Stickers will cost $2.00. (Pictures in gallery)

In Person Registration Available at Sportwheels
Starting Tuesday July 26th until August 2nd Sportwheels will have registration forms available. If you would rather register in person, maybe pick up a few items for the event, Sportwheels is the place to do it.
This will only be available from July 25th until August 2nd!
For those who are choosing to register day of here are the times that registration services will be available:
Saturday August 6th – All Categories -6:30-8:00 pm
Sunday August 7th – All Categories – 8:00-9:30am
Sunday August 7th – 4 hours only - 10:00-11:00am
Registering online will save you money and you will receive Schwag!
Agoraphobia
Just a reminder that Agoraphobia is happening this weekend on Sunday July 24th. This is always a great race.
Breakfast Television
Today (July 19th) I had the pleasure to spend part of my day filming with Cyril from Breakfast Television. We were extremely fortunate to have had some great weather.
The segments will be aired next Tuesday July 26th. Tune in and get some additional information on this years’ Gorefest Mountain Bike Festival!
Sportwheels Gore Ride
Sportwheels will be hosting a group ride on Monday July 11th. The trail are in great shape and it promises to be an awesome ride.
If interested meet at Sportwheels and we will leave at 6pm sharp, that way we can carpool if desired.
Gorefest Update
With just over one month to go before Gorefest there is a ton to report.
We have received prizes from Devinci, Norco, Cycles Lambert and there will be more coming. This promises to provide prizes for most of the participants regardless of how many laps you finish or how fast you do them.
Tom, Shawn, and Jim have been doing a whole bunch of trail work to make the course perfect for August 6/7th.
We have confirmed some additional sponsors including Propeller Breweries. They have been producing very tasty beer and soda for over 12 years. They are also great folks to deal with!
